The Precariat seeks to explore themes of risk and resistance through architectural form, while inviting and revealing the darker harmonies of historic and contemporary occupation.

A multi-channel sound installation, evoking the toiled land, accompanied the transforming houses.

Congratulations to Karen McLean on her show ‘The Precariat’ a poetic evocation of the chest-tightening colonial history of the Barbadian plantation ‘chattel’ house – an oxymoron in most legal systems. It feels especially poignant that it comes at a time of soul-searching on the subject of precarious and life-endangering housing in the UK.
